A Number of Hurt as Rough Air Impacts A Delta Airlines Aircraft Landing at Sydney

Multiple passengers and crew were hurt following a Delta flight traveling from LA to Sydney, Australia was hit by rough air Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at the Sydney airport, a representative for the carrier informed. Four flight attendants were injured.

Emergency medical services reported they evaluated five individuals, and transferred a trio to a medical facility with minor injuries that such as back pain and head pain. Those affected were between their 30s up to the 70s.

The event represents the most recent case of commercial jets encountering severe turbulence, with experts pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.

There were 245 people and 15 crew members on the aircraft, the representative added, clarifying that the plane touched down "without further incident" at the airport at 06:48 local time on the day in question.

The NSW Ambulance Service reported they received a call just only 180 seconds prior to the plane arrived, and response teams were waiting on the tarmac.

Intense turbulence is described as when the sudden jolts of a jet experiencing unstable air exert in excess of a significant G-force on your body - enough to propel you from your seat if you weren't wearing a seatbelt.

As climate change shifts the conditions in the sky, researchers alert that commercial aviation could become less smooth: temperature changes and altered air currents in the higher altitudes are expected to heighten the occurrence and strength of significant turbulence.
