Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
