Fans Call for Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are demanding that a man who jumped a barricade and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted security officers at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had assembled in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected relationship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and earned 10 Academy Award nods, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
