People have come together across the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated assault on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas representatives convened in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the conditions of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official knowledgeable about the talks said that an late session of negotiations began at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the earlier meeting finished without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not resume combat after the first phase of the arrangement.

He commented that the discussions are "difficult and have still not produce any real breakthrough," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future administration of the area

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's public square that day, young Hagar - whose brother endured the attack on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - told: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until each abducted person return none of us will feel safe."

"Once we see everyone home again, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their backing for the families of the captives. Israel reports forty-eight remain in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator one woman stated: "We must do any agreement needed for the captives to come back home. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israelis want the war to end in return for the liberation of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the gathering, mourners came together to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were documented in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the night arrives, the dread arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, clinging, especially my smallest child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had received the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern city of that area said another two victims had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the southern area, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
