New Details Come to Light Regarding the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Remains
New information has come to light regarding the shocking demises of esteemed director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were found at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.
The Alarm
A source indicates quoting a person close to the family, a practitioner arriving for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the home. This individual then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the house, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Her roommate who had accompanied her contacted 911. Following this, emergency responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Charges
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, including the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently detained without bail.
Disputed Reports
The confidential informant also disputed several earlier details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.
The source also disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "concerned" about Nick's actions in recent weeks. The source claimed the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation also extends to accounts of alleged "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.
Ongoing Inquiry Timeline
As stated by law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some accounts suggested the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not appear until no sooner than Wednesday.
