New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
