Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with results like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
