This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
