Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
